Othman disagrees with Maliki, sees blocs have long way to run before forming government

August 7, 2010 - 11:52:56

BAGHDAD / Aswat al-Iraq: On the contrary of Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki, Kurd Lawmaker Mahmoud Othman sees that political blocs have a long way to run before forming the new government.
In a meeting with the Iraqi President Jalal Talbani on Friday (August 6), al-Maliki said that he thinks efforts to form the new government have reached “the final stage.”
“Negotiations haven’t reached the first stage, how can they have reached the final one?,” Othman told Aswat al-Iraq news agency on Saturday, commenting on al-Maliki’s assertion.
He noted that political blocs haven’t so far discussed the issue of selecting Iraq’s upcoming prime minister.
“Political blocs have had many dialogues and formed many committees, but have so far reached no conclusive result regarding the formation of the new government,” Othman stressed.
